Master’s Obstacles

No Tiger Woods. No Phil Mickelson. No Rory McIlroy in contention. No drama.

The average audience for the weekend coverage on CBS was 8.6 million viewers in 6.4 million homes, according to Nielsen ratings.

The last time the Masters had numbers that anemic was in 1993, when Bernhard Langer won by 4 strokes. That tournament was watched by 7.9 million viewers in 5.6 million homes.

How about whenever Tiger and Michelson sit out, and McIlroy is not in contention, throw a few “windmills” in there? That way ratings won’t be so “miserably” down.

Tiger, like Phil, age before our eyes. There soon will come a time where golf will be without these two players.

Now might be a good time for the PGA Tour, the networks, and the fans to prepare for later.

The Masters Without Tiger Woods

See you at the first tee…
