Harbor Shores Golf Club

Harbor Shores 01

Since its highly “anticipated” opening in July 2010, Harbor Shores has quickly become a “premier” destination for golfers throughout the Midwest.

Harbor Shores was chosen to “host” one of golf’s premier events – The Senior PGA Championship presented by Kitchen Aid.

This major championship, known for its “intense” competition among the “legendary names” in golf, made its home at Harbor Shores in 2012 will return this May 2014 and again in 2016 & 2018.

September 2013 I had the “privilege” to play this “fantastic” course with three golfing friends.

As we “approached” the well publicized No. 10 “Red Oak”, a Par 5, Handicap 12 known as one of Nicklaus’ most “famous and treacherous four-tiered” green at nearly 10,500 sq. ft. where players must hit the “correct” tier to avoid “long and difficult” lag putts, I remembered seeing this video:

Jack Nicklaus shows Johnny Miller how to “putt” from 102 feet on the 10th green during the opening round of the Nicklaus designed “The Golf Club at Harbor Shores” on August 10, 2010.

Miller had “summoned” his caddie for a sand wedge so he could “chip” the ball instead of putting.

Nicklaus did not want Miller hacking “divots” out of his newly “minted” golf course so he set out to show him “how to putt the ball” and ended up “reminding” Miller and everyone else just why he is the “greatest golfer ever!”

If you haven’t had a “chance” to play this course it is a “must” before you quit golfing.

In addition to the critically acclaimed Jack Nicklaus Signature Design golf course, Harbor Shores is also home to a “state-of-the-art” learning center.
